Joan Didion's New Project: a Movie

Joan Didion is to co-write a new political thriller called ?As It Happens,? ItsOnTheGrid.com, a blog which tracks the development of Hollywood feature films, reports.

Her screenwriting partner is Todd Field, the writer/director of two previous films, ?In the Bedroom? and ?Little Children,? which together garnered him three Academy Award nominations. Field will also co-produce the movie along with Jennifer Fox (?We Need to Talk about Kevin? and ?Michael Clayton?).

New York magazine?s Vulture blog notes that Didion has not written a produced screenplay since ?Up Close and Personal? in 1996. However, Didion?s interest in movie-making clearly never dissipated completely; in 2008, we reported that she was involved in the making of a biopic about the legendary Washington Post editor, Katherine Graham. That movie faced opposition from Graham?s daughter, and was ultimately never made.

Details about ?As it Happens? remain elusive, with no information currently available about what its story line will be. Also unknown is whether Field will direct the film himself or if another director is being sought.
